About the Artist

chartistIt is my pleasure to invite you to my gallery. As you will see most of my art incorporates real and hand-molded shells and other oceanic objects. My business name stems from my love for the ocean which began when I was only a child. My mother would drive my siblings and me from Portland to Seaside, Oregon in Mom’s 1955 Pontiac convertible with the top down. As kids we would play on the beach and I would always be on the lookout for shells and other shiny objects in the sand and surf to tuck in my pockets and take home.

As I grew older I never stopped taking trips to the ocean; enjoying strolls along the beach; watching the tide ebb and flow; listening to the sounds of the waves, wind and birds; breathing in the salty air; observing the tidepool animals, as well as beach-combing for shells, driftwood & other objects carried in by the waves. Being at the ocean energized me and, regardless of the weather, I found it “spellbinding.” In 1978 I took a college class to learn how to create stained glass art, which I continued to do off and on over the years. Since retiring, I decided to learn how to do fused glass and began taking workshops in April of 2012. What you are about to see is an on-going process of my creations of various types of original pieces of art from glass panels to beveled sand and shell boxes, accent tiles, wind chimes, hand painted sand dollars, stepping stones and more. It is my desire that my works of art bring you joy and a feeling of synergy which is what I get from creating them. If you see something you like just email me at Charisse@shellsnspells.com. Thank you!
